.

At the 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Paris, the "Prehistoric Caves of Khorramabad Valley" were inscribed as Iran’s 29th site on the World Heritage List.

This complex includes five caves and a rock shelter located south of Khorramabad city, containing evidence of human habitation from Neanderthals to the Upper Paleolithic period.

This inscription marks Iran’s first successful registration of a Paleolithic heritage site on the UNESCO list and highlights the significant role of the Iranian Plateau in early human migration and evolution.

With this addition, Iran now ranks among the leading countries in the preservation of cultural heritage, boasting 29 World Heritage sites.
